Lettuces

We try to buy as much product as possible from local farmers, That`s why we buy our lettuce  from local farmers from April until October.

'Little Gem' is a dwarf cos lettuce, a leafy biennial usually grown as an annual. It produces small, dense, heads with a crisp, sweet heart from spring to autumn 

Iceberg is a variety of lettuce with crisp leaves that grow in a spherical head resembling cabbage. It is considered one of the sweeter lettuce varieties like romaine and butterhead. 

Cos or Romaine (Romano) lettuce is long and almost oblong in shape. The leaves are thick and firm with a stiff central rib. The outer leaves are slightly bitter, but the ones in the centre are sweeter and more delicate. 

This lettuce has a deep green colour. The head is round, as its name suggests, with leaves that are crispy in the middle but becoming softer – and even deeper in colour – further out. The largest outer leaves can be a bit leathery with larger lettuces. 

An Italian relative of chicory, shaped like a small cabbage, it's mainly used in salads, and its bitter flavour contrasts well with milder leaves such as rocket.
