The big summer break is upon us

which means fresh fruit in abundance and BBQs. The Adams team love cooking al fresco, so this month we are looking at the best of the season for your grill.

We have fresh meat coming twice weekly form our butcher, and we encourage deliveries on Tuesdays and Fridays for the best we have available. Our chuck mince works really well for burgers, short ribs for marinading and getting sticky, and the butcher makes wonderful Cumberland sausages. We don’t keep stock of the meat, so pre order for the freshest available produce.

For vegan options, we’ve sourced the best options available: Burgers from Moving Mountain, burgers and sausages from Future Farm, and Green Vie’s wonderful vegan halloumi style cheese.

That’s the protein ticked. For the rest: baps, floured, brioche or finger rolls, we’ve got them in the freezer. Choose from American mustard, on or off brand ketchup in whichever format suits, marinades, condiments the list runs on and on. Look on Fresho or contact your account manager for details on what we have to offer, and keep an eye on our weekly specials through the summer.

The wonderful, and much pilloried British weather plays a massive part in BBQ season, and this last year has seen the weather influence more than just choosing on whether to pack your brolly for a day out.

Potatoes have suffered massively as a result of the prolonged dry heat of last summer. We are finalt into the new season second earlies, multipurpose spuds that see the end of sky high prices and poor conditioning.

Europe is experiencing alarming heat records, and our mixed leaf includes leaves from all over, which are suffering from the hot soil conditions. By the time the leaves are reaching us, they are on their last legs. Not all is lost, though, as we collect lettuces from the New Forest several times a week, and we are justifiably proud of our Gems, Cos, Icebergs, as well as the crispy headed favourites of lollo rosso et al. We are equally impressed with the summer brassicas from the New Forest; cavolo nero, savoys, spring greens are all resplendent.

For afters, it is stone fruit season. Peaches, nectarines, apricots are all juicy, sweet and lush, and they go hand in hand with new season figs, which are now plump and fabulous. These all come from far off, and, as we’re always looking for great products from closer to home, we have switched out sea salt to the Dorset Sea Salt Company. Hand harvested from the iconic setting of Chesil Beach, the flakes are presented naturally or smoked, for an extra flavour dimension.

So there’s your BBQ set up, except one last detail. We stock Big K 15kg bags of restaurant grade charcoal. Job done!
